Any mac business not using an online backup solution such as MozyPro, has probably been using Retrospect. Unfortunately Retrospect, once an independent company (Dantz) was prchase by EMC years ago and only the Windows version has made progress since then.

We at Evo Networks felt this pain personally and moved our Data protection to MozyPro for Mac even before it made it out of beta becuase of the serious drawbacks in what was percieved to be a dead product. While Retrospect had far more capabilities in speed and enterprise features when dealing with multiple backup media (FTP, Tapes, Hard Disks, Etc.), MozyPro was the only reliable way to backup the newest versions of Apple's Intel based computers offsite (Time Machine is for local backup only).

Today is a new day. EMC has finally finished polishing off Retrospect 8 for Mac. If your business relies on previous versions of Retrospect for Mac we strongly advise you make the jump to the new version only and only if you have an all intel based network.

"EMC Retrospect version 8.0 does not currently support PowerPC based Macintosh computers. We expect that PowerPC Support will be available shortly- please check back for updates." - Retrospect Website
