HP Upline is a data backup service that lets you store your data online in a secure HP headquarters location. Evo Networks has learned from CNET News that Upline users have until March 31 to recover any files they want from the system. HP will be giving users a full (not pro-rated) refund of fees paid to the system.

Unfortunately in these times of financial hardship many hardware providers such Dell and until now, HP have offered these data protection services, but they are now quickly paring back on non-core businesses. Evo Networks strongly recomends that if a data backup service is going to be used, use only firms with data services as their core compentency. We are big fans of MozyPro and its rival Carbonite. Moreover if you wanted to pick the stronger of the two from a financial stand point, Mozy has the cash backing of EMC where as Carbonite is on their own.
